Cambodiyeet: PeePee!

Went back to PP over the weekend (25th - 27th) with some Cambodian friendos - Tahnee, Viv, Stephen, Ivor, White Dan, Angelo and Madi. Took the bus on Friday afternoon from my country town. It took 5 ish hours?? idk was super tired after it. 

Had dinner at a super authentic Italian pizza place in Ballsack lane. Hadn't seen them for luong time so it was nice talking to people who were not Amy. 

Went back to the hotel and got a lil bit lit HAHAHA. We were just playing dumb card games and drinking. Kind of waste of alcohol cus everyone just went to sleep. I tried to hakk and stephen laughed so rudely because he was pretty lit. I only have photos of stephn for some reason

Da next morning, woke up to get breakfast at this nearby cafe that seemed like it never had customers cus it took a solid hour for our food to arrive.

then went up to the rooftop of the hotel and was greeted by this stunning viewwwww

Chilled in da pool for a while then we went into the sauna and had the best time all sweating and laughing in pain together. IT WAS SO FKN HOT

then went to Aeon mall 2 for carls jnr AGAIN and chatime. heheh then my favvv we went back to the decathlon area to play badminton. we got sosososos into it esp with stephen and ivor cus they scramble for everything. WAS A GOOD FKN TIME. 

Then went to red bar at ballsack lane, had a few drinks, then had dinz at yummo pasta place and drank another beer. Had a weird exchange with Madi and tinder came up but bruh felt so uncomfortable  

after that I think we went to a random bar by the riverside and drank more and more and more and then we ended up on the sloped concrete right by the river. saw some people playing badminton. I was in my own fkn world fked out of my mind. 

went back to hotel, watched a bit of amazing superman while doing face masks and at some point I knocked out. Stephen had to peel off my facemask and get me into bed.

next morning we all woke up so late. We had a 6/10 pho meal near central market. then i took a tuktuk to my bus stop and took the 5.5 hr bus back to pPpPPpPpPpPPp

so glad I went on this trip even though I was worried about not knowing anyone, all the Cambodians were sooooooooooooooooooooooo friendly and kept making sure i was ok and feeding me beers and taking photos with me just sighs why is everyone so nice here??

King Island

So last weekend (Sun-Tues), I went on a work trip to Koh Kong Province with some of the hospital staff and the Provincial Health Department (PHD) staff. Was invited by the PHD director who is the guy sitting on the left of me. Super friendly, speaks good English but didn't drink the whole weekend because he has stomach problems. My homestay mum, Rotana, also came because she works at the PHD heheheh so I wasn't too scared.

I was told that I was on a different bus to her so I was a bit :///// BUT when I got on the bus, the dep director of my hospital plonked down next to me and he could speak pretty good English so I was happy. Such a nice dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. He's probably like 50 though and he has three kids and is not married lmfao.

Bus trip was 10 hours in total grrrrr. For lunch the bus just stopped at a random field with a nice patch of dirt and then it was a communal effort from everyone to get out the picnic mats and food. It was the dirtiest shit ever like people were chucking their bones and scraps onto the mat and then flies starting coming but people ate the shit that had flies sitting on it?!?! IDK such a public health hazard. Also some cows were in the bg just chilling.

Got back on the bus and had a beeeeer. TrTheied tamarind which was sweet. The whole bus ride they were blasting karaoke and I was so over it I just wanted to sleep. They had a competition running and the best karaoke singer as voted by the people won a phone??? It wasn't just an ordinary competition though, there were rounds and semis and finals HAHAHHA.

Arrived at a random pier in Koh Kong and then took a ferry to King Island woweee.

Getting on the ferry was so scary cus it was just one plank to the boat suspended like 1 meter above the actual boat.

Got to the island as the sun was setting and it was sooooo pretty hehe. Settled into my room and then went out for dinz. The eating area was like in the water on like a pier. idk how to describe

Ate lots of fish soup because everything else was seafood. They learned that I didn't like any seafood besides fish and after that they ordered special food for me so I would still eat :) SO KINDDDDD. Got quite tipsy and then got baited to dance with them. 

Ok so Cambodians have three dances:

1. Traditional - lots of strange curly hand actions whilst walking around and worshipping an ice cooler. Its feels so unnatural to do but if you do it properly its really pretty. Not be because I wanted so hard to just muzz. 
2. Slow - swaying with a partner, pretty normal
3. Ham - POWER WALKING ARM ACTIONS ON THE SPOT I was trying so hard not to laugh

Then went to bed zzzzzzzzz

Woke up next morning for breakfast with the directors again. Got some mii chaa then we hopped on a ferry back to the mainland.

Stopped downstream from the Tatai Dam to take some photos! When I was walking to work the day after the trip ended, the lady in this picture with the hat offered me a motorbike ride after she saw me walking hahaha. 

Then saw a sea water forest? Idk what you call it cus they're not exactly mangroves but they're very similar.

Parts of the path were covered by sea water so had to take our shoes off and trek through >:(

The little blue hut is one of the places where people had to sit down and eat lunch. WAS WHACK there were so many flies and wasps and fkn ants crawling all over the food but yo they were unphased. I think lunch lasted for a solid 3 hours that day.

Whilst waiting for the food tho, got offered this banana wrapped in sticky rice and JFASJDF;LAJDS;FLKJA  it was so so so so good.

After lunch, was offered to take a boat ride to see more of these weird little tree forest islands. Did we got on the ferry via a pier? NO we just fkn climbed over the railing of where we were eating lunch, climbed through some of trees then jumped into the boat. 

more travelling and bus riding, then eventually arrived in the Koh Kong city and checked into the guest house. I was so glad to not have insects in my fucken bathroom omg.

Headed out for dinner on the side of a random river. People got so so so drunk but I didn't want to use the public bathroom so I didn't drink too much. New me is so disappointed in old me HAHAHA I peed in some ratchet ass toilets the next day.

Lots of dancing, was super duper tired. Group called Cambodia crew again during the chaos. They finished their karaoke competition hehe

Had breakfast in the morning opposite Garry and Joo-Hong's hospital so like while waiting for food I just saw two figures in the distance in fkn blue scrubs and I knew it was them. Went to say hi and also have a peek in their workshop and askdfj;lasjkdf;lakj so envious they have so much stuff to fix >:(

Hopped back on the bus and again didn't wanna drink because I didn't want to pee. 

Lunch, cambodian style again. Pretty sure the fish I ate made me diarrhoea the next day but yolo

During lunch I accepted a beer and then that was the beginning of the end. I KEPT DRINKING AND DRINKING AND DRINKINg because the adults kept offering hehehhe. so fkn munted

But yeah I danced on the bus with them and it was super fun :))) What was also fun in the moment was all the public toilets i peed in but fk some of them weren't bathrooms like I had to pee on the side of the road, squat in a hole in the middle of a field fk it was ratchet.

BUT SUCH A GOOD TIME. The guy I was sitting next to was basically a tour guide. He was pointing at things the whole way back and explaining what they were!! 

everyone was super duper tired during dinner but managed to dance nevertheless. 

got back to Preah Vihear at midnight and just wanted my bed but i had to shower. 

I feel truly like a Cambodian now. ALSO I learnt so many new words on the trip like luk ey, pek ors, muoy dtiet XD

had a shit day at the hospital tho, couldn't fix a single fucking thing ughghghhgghghghghgh CEEBs

BUT HAD A GOOD FUCKING NIGHT HAHAHAH Rotana, one of the homestay mums (theres like so many mums but its her house, cus she owns like 10 and she's the one who's husband passed away). She speaks very little english and today she said, "nice to meet you" and bruh i felt like crying

yo tried to fix a water dispenser but failed, whats new

 Opened up the ESU after reading last year's report on it. They said there was a short in the transformer but they never replaced it. Idk why??

The new dentist friend i made over the weekend asked me to have a look at his dental chair, there was a fat air leak in one of the tubes so I tried to patch it up with silicone, we'll see how this works tmr after its cured.

 Also opened up the oxy concentrator today and found that everything was in working order, so must be the zeolites that are fucked

Then went home and had a WIESoc meeting about the website. It was good, im constantly in awe of Teresa and the amount of shit she gets done in so little time...

Then had a really nice dinner talking to Kaka and Rotana and then Rotana goes, i want to drink with you Serena and I'm like what?? tonight?? and she's like only if you want to and I'm like ... o k. SO SHE GOES BACK TO HER OTHER HOUSE TO GET 5 CANS and i drink 2 and she drinks 1, her brother drinks one and she tells me to drink 1 more but im like nah only if you drink 1 more so she goes back to get another one omfg. Had a good night struggling to understand what the other was saying hehhehe but lasdjf;lajsdf;ljafgkljasd;flkja im gonna be so sad when i leave them :( They invited me to go see the waterfall near the laos/cambodia border!!

had a long group call with Da Gurlz (cambo group) and Yiyi was sad because we weren't gonna see each other probably until we get back to Phnom Penh. Also Yiyi said about a possible trip, "Is Janet coming? I'm not asking out of disgust, I'm just asking" and VIVIAN HAD HER PHONE ON LOUDSPEAKER SO JANET HEARD OMLAKJDF;LANFKAJDF

So today I had to return to work after my 5 days of exhausting fun >:(  I went to Siem Reap and Koh Kong over the weekend but those blog posts are coming XD SORRY this is such nonlinear story telling but i feel like i have to get this out first CUS TODAY WAS SO FUN

Legit was so tireddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd. Had breakfast at Ly Hout as usual

Then walked to work and on the way there a car stopped and rolled the window down to say hi to me, realised it was people I went on the work trip with :) The skinny man and his wife .

Went to work, was in a funk again because I couldn't find my BMET and I had no work to do so I wandered around the hospital and eventually ran into my fav deputy director Ponina. I told him I had nothing to do so he just went around the hospital with me and asked ppl in Khmer if they had anything to fix. Spoiler alert, no one did, so I made a tripod out of a toilet paper roll. Issa great!! I took a timelapse with it today will show one day

day 50 with this fucken centrifuge, still can't open it

found some spare wheel parts but couldn't assemble them because the metal bit is too rusted. 

Then BMET came back and took me to see an anaesthesia machine that I was a bit unsure how to go about to fixing, BUT LUCKILYYYYY my supervisor Will (current UNSW student) and ONLY white person I have seen in Preah Vihear had just arrived at my hospital. He was sosososososos helpful lmfao saved my life.

so first he tried to open my centrifuge, talked about random things like how I was finding the hospital etc, idk. Will is just super duper chill and easy to talk to. he was telling me about his tinder bae HAHAHAH.

Then looked at the anaesthesia machine and he helped me take apart the haloalkane canister. found the o-ring on one of the sealers was broken. I have to go to the market tmr to find it sighs BUT AT LEAST its fixable!!

Then looked at ESU and fuses were broken so all good in the hood thats an easy fix too

also had a quick look at the autoclave amy and I couldn't fix and we were thinking maybe the wiring is just wrong??? 

then we had lunch at ly hout and he paid hehhee. Idk what we talked about, can't really remember but it was nice having another fluent English speaker with me SIGHS. Cambo Amy still recovering in Siem Reap 

Then we visited my homestay and ugh i just love my homestay family so much they are always so welcoming to everyone. They spoke to him in Khmer cus he's pretty fluent hahha. Also noticed that locals are so much friendlier to white people 

Anyway, the baa-rang caught a private taxi to his next hospital visit leaving me alone once again :( I googled the timer for the autoclave and turns out there was actually nothing wrong with it, it was just diff to the one the doctor was used to using so i think he was confused. I have to put it back into the autoclave tmr and test it sighs.

ya then planned on taking apart an oxygen concentrator but ended up being a lot harder than expected so I was ceebs and am saving it for tomorrow. 

Mr Ponina invited me into the library and showed me the free coffee machine but said I had to wait a little bit for hot water. The english speaking dentist was also in the room and he was laughing and trolling saying that I also had to fix the coffee machine BUT LO AND BEHOLD I wait for 20 mins and the water still isnt hot?!?!? I ask the dentist and apparently its been broken for a year or so.... so hello I have something else to fix how exciting hahaha 

The dentist also wants me to come into a local english school and teach for a day but i am shy

Went home, showered and had a long ass call with my WIESoc President, Vivian. she's so easy to talk to and gives super good advice :) HAHAHahahah im such a snitch sometimes tho SIGHS i hate that tendency in myself. ANYWAY, got called to dinner and had such a nice bonding dinner with Kaka and Sithai, the two good adult english speakers in my homestay. She was telling me about how the factory she used to work in had actual ghosts like she saw their arms and headless bodies wtf and a few people were killed in the factory from the ghosts. apparently its cus when they initially opened the factory, they didn't bless the building with food and fruits O_O

anyway, moving on because I'm sleeping alone again tonight, I was just chilling and talking then Deputy Director Mr Ponina calls me and basically says "BITCH COME AND DRINKKKKKK" in a polite way so I ask Kaka and she's cool with it so "BYE BITCHES IM GOING TO DRINKKKK" hopped on the back of Ponina's motorcycle and vroom vroomed one minute down the road HAHAHA

had 3 beers in around 2 hours just chilling, laughing and chatting at the home of the couple that i sat in front of on the bus on the the Koh Kong trip (sorry for that please try to understand). they were teaching me khmer and being genuinely impressed at how much I knew after one month but legit im so so so so so bad. They were so kind. They said they didn't want me to be sad because they know I missed home and my family and they wanted me to forget about it for a little while. They also asked me to bring my family the next time we come to Cambodia :( IM SO Sad just writing this wtf cus I probably won't come back for a long long long time.
